CPS Facelift
By Miranda Babson
China Primary school got a bit of a facelift this summer with the help of community members, volunteers, and two separate grants. Now when you enter China Primary, you’ll notice that the carpeting that used to be in the hallways, gym, library, and other places are gone and have been replaced with bright white-speckled tiling.
It wasn’t an easy task; all the books, shelving, and furniture from the main office, library, staff room, Title One room, special services room, and speech and guidance offices had to be removed and placed in the hall. The custodians worked hard to move everything before Joseph’s Flooring in Winslow came in to remove the old carpet and install the new floors. The re-flooring project was one of the six school projects in the district to be approved through the Maine Department of Education’s School Revolving Renovation Fund.
In addition, the walls and baseboards were washed and given a new coat of paint, courtesy a grant from True Value Hardware. Teachers and community volunteers came in over the summer to repaint the halls and several classrooms.
