Third Grade Macy’s Day Parade Magic
China Primary School’s third graders brought creativity to the building before Thanksgiving break! After reading Balloons Over Broadway and exploring the history of the Macy’s Day Parade, students designed their own imaginative parade balloons completely from scratch. They brainstormed concepts, sketched detailed plans, and wrote persuasive letters explaining to the Macy’s team why their balloon deserved a place in the real parade.
Using paper-mâché as the foundation, students transformed their ideas into vibrant 3D masterpieces adorned with paint, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, feathers, glitter, googly eyes, and more. Their creations highlighted impressive STEM thinking, problem-solving, and artistic skill.
The project wrapped up with a joyful hallway parade, where families and the entire school lined the corridors to cheer on each balloon. The CPS community is incredibly proud of the hard work, creativity, and imagination these third graders poured into their projects! #WeAreRSU18 #CPSdragons
