30 Day Happy Teacher Challenge
Principal Darlene Pietz handed out a new challenge to her staff on the second workshop day of the year. She wanted teachers to go into the year taking care of themselves and one another. The 30 Day Happy Teacher Challenge gives teachers daily tasks that range from having a work-free lunch without feeling guilty about it, to taking the time to chat with colleagues or acknowledge a student’s growth. Pietz challenged teachers to accomplish at least 80% of the items listed in order to be included in a prize drawing at the end of the month. The real motivator, however, is the impact the challenge can have for staff and students alike. “When you look at the items listed, you’ll see that a happy teacher is one who touches the lives of students in positive ways,” said Pietz.
