Character Day at CPS

November is family literacy month, and schools all over RSU 18 are getting into the spirit with fantastic events.

Friday, November 2nd was character day at CPS. Students came in dressed up as characters from their favorite books.  In preparation for the day, students filled out a form describing their character choice and the book that it came from. They created homemade costumes to wear and brought in a copy of the book for the day of the event.

“The kids [were] so excited,” said Librarian Sonja Boudreau. “I heard them talking to each other about their characters and the stories!”

Students took part in several character-study activities with their classmates during the day. The China School PTO contributed a fall treat of apple cider and snacks to add to the festivities.  At 1:30 family members were invited to join students and staff in the CPS Gym for a costume parade to wrap things up. “Character day was awesome,” said second-grade teacher Beth Preston. “Thank you to all that had a hand in making it a success!”

Stay tuned for more great literacy events around the district!
